Explore the One-Night-a-Week
M.S.N. program
Now you can earn your Master of Science in Nursing from
one of Michigan’s top nursing schools and prepare
for your future in the profession without disrupting
your life.
EMU–Livonia’s M.S.N. program is made for
the nurse with a busy schedule. The program can be completed
by taking courses one-evening-a-week at EMU–Livonia,
conveniently located at Six Mile Road and I-275.
An M.S.N. prepares you to become a leader in your field
and provides you with skills for career advancement.
You’ll gain advanced practice skills, increased
knowledge of health care systems and enhanced research
skills. Our graduates are qualified to become advanced
practice nurses and/or teach in community colleges, universities,
clinics, pharmaceutical companies and school systems.
You can also choose to sit for the American Nurses Credentialing
Center Clinical Nurse Specialist Examination.
The program offers three areas of concentration. And,
if you’re not ready to pursue a full M.S.N. degree,
two of the concentrations (continuous quality improvement
in health care and teaching in health care systems) can
be completed for graduate certificates and later apply
as credits earned toward your M.S.N. degree. The three
areas of concentration are:
Teaching in Health Care Systems
This 12 credit-hour program develops skills in teaching
strategies, curriculum development, curriculum evaluation
and clinical teaching. These courses can also be completed
for a graduate certificate in teaching in health care
systems.
Quality Improvement in Health Care
This 12 credit-hour program develops skills in quality
improvement with emphasis on outcome measurement and
process improvement. The program is designed for nurses,
performance improvement coordinators, risk management
personnel, education coordinators and managers and
staff in health care facilities. These courses can
also be completed for a graduate certificate in quality
improvement.
Gerontology
This 13-credit hour program is a collaborative effort
of the School of Nursing and the Interdisciplinary
Gerontology Program to promote advanced knowledge and
care to elderly clients.
EMU’s nursing programs are approved by the Michigan
State Board of Nursing and accredited by
