What
is Continuing Education?
Continuing Education is an organizational unit within Eastern Michigan University
through which credit and non-credit programs are offered.
How do
courses offered through Continuing Education differ
from those offered by the University?
Since each course offered through Continuing Education must be approved by the
EMU academic department offering the course, there is absolutely no difference
in terms of academic credit or quality of instruction. There is, however, a difference
in where, when, and how courses are offered. Most courses offered by the University
are held on campus, Monday through Friday, and during the traditional 15- or
7 1/2- week term. Courses offered through Continuing Education, however, are
offered in the evenings during the week, on weekends, at off-campus locations
throughout the state, online, and in convenient compressed formats.
Are courses offered through Continuing Education
for graduate students only?
No - they're for all students, including undergraduate and graduate, those who
live on-campus or off-campus, and those who attend part-time or full-time.
Where can
I take a course offered through Continuing Education?
On EMU's main campus in Ypsilanti, as well as at off-campus locations
in Detroit, Flint, Grand Rapids, Jackson, Brighton, Livonia, Monroe, Traverse
City and Washtenaw County. Other select locations also are
available at certain times throughout the year.
Does it cost more to take a course offered
through Continuing Education?
The same University tuition and fees apply, with the exception of: - online courses,
which have a $40 per credit hour program fee. - independent learning courses,
which have a $20 per course program fee. - compressed-format courses offered
during the spring/summer in Traverse City and during Winter Break in various
northern Michigan locations, of which both have an additional program fee. A
list of current tuition
and fees is available on the EMU
Registar's website.
Who teaches
courses offered through Continuing Education?
Faculty, emeritus faculty, and lecturers from EMU's academic departments.
Do I need to be admitted to the University
to enroll in a course offered through Continuing Education?
